Julia Sasso dances presents
Beauty
On June 11th, 2001 Julia Sasso dances embarks on a new adventure; the creation of the company’s first, full length work, Beauty. Commissioned by the Toronto based theatre company Nightswimming, Beauty will receive its World Premiere at the Canada Dance Festival 2002 in Ottawa.
Choreographed by Julia Sasso to an original, commissioned score by Geoffrey Bennett, Jeff Wilson and TTG Music Lab, Beauty will feature the considerable talents of performers Megan Branson, Justine Chambers, Michael Sean Mayre, Ron Stewart, Heidi Strauss, Michael Trent and new comer Mairead Filgate.
Beauty takes the form of an abstract, non-narrative meditation on all that the word beauty holds. Beauty is everywhere and is all encompassing yet it is often imperceptible. I am looking for the unexpected places in which beauty resides. The beauty in terror, torment and pain as well as joy.
“…For Beauty’s nothing but beginning of Terror we’re still just able to bear, and why we adore it so is because it serenely disdains to destroy us…”
- Rilke
